Doddie Weir Foundation
Doddie Weir’s remarkable rugby career is a testament to his talent, commitment and athleticism. With 61 caps for Scotland, a successful British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa in 1997, and championships won with both Melrose RFC and Newcastle Falcons, Doddie firmly established himself as one of the game’s great lock forwards.
Following his diagnosis with motor neuron disease (MND) in 2017, Doddie founded My Name’5 Doddie Foundation with a clear and simple vision: a world free of MND. The foundation was created to raise vital funds to:
- Support research into the causes of MND and the search for potential cures.
- Improve the lives of those living with MND and their families.
- Provide grants to organisations such as MND Scotland and the MND Association, to support individuals and families affected by MND.
Through funding essential research and providing support, the Foundation aims to change the future for those living with MND.
Doddie’s Tartan: A Symbol of Support
To help raise awareness and funds for the foundation, a special tartan was created in honour of Doddie. Designed by The Scotland Shop, the tartan features the iconic blue and white colours of Scotland, alongside the black and yellow colours of Doddie’s beloved Borders club, Melrose RFC.
Halbro Sportswear worked closely with the Foundation to ensure a perfect match of this tartan across the official clothing range, bringing Doddie’s vision to life.
